My Travels: Atacama Desert, Chile

We started this trip by flying into Santiago, Chile. What a gorgeous city! I definitely has a European flare to it. After a few days of exploring Santiago, we flew to the Atacama Desert. The Atacama Desert is located in northern Chile.

We spent a week at the wonderful, Tierra Atacama Hotel and Spa. In preparation for hiking the highest mountain it the area, Toco, which we did at the end of the week, each day leading up to Toco, the hikes either were longer, harder, higher in altitude and/or all of the above.

The sky in the Atacama was amazing! So crystal clear at night, felt like you could reach out and touch the stars!

Summitted Cerro Toco in the Atacama Desert, Chile.  The hike starts at 5,200 meters above sea level and rises to 5,604 meters, which is higher than Everest Base Camp.
